About Us
Alma Rebelde is born in Miahuatlán, Oaxaca, from a conscious decision: not to let tradition fade in front of industrial mezcal.
This mezcal emerges from the encounter between artisanal maestros mezcaleros and Viajeros del Mezcal, a project that understands mezcal as journey, territory, and living resistance.
Every fermentation, every cut, and every decision of the mezcalero shapes mezcal that is honest, expressive, and alive.
We don’t seek to replicate formulas; we accompany processes, respect origin, and allow mezcal to tell its own path.
Made by rebel souls, for those who believe tradition is not preserved—it is practiced.

Our Story

Hi, I’m Jorge. I grew up in Miahuatlán, one of Oaxaca’s great mezcal regions.
After many years working abroad as a bartender, I came back home to find many things were changing. Where before I could see rabbits and fireflies, now there were espadin agave monocultures. I knew I had to do something about it.
Talking with various maestros mezcaleros I realised we shared the same concerns: we didn’t want biodiversity and traditional ways of mezcal making to disappear due to pesticides and the use of machineries. That is how Viajeros del Mezcal emerged, a volunteer project where travelers from around the world learn about mezcal while supporting maestros mezcaleros and giving back to the community.
Alma Rebelde was born with the same values in mind: support traditional mezcal production and protect biodiversity, but with a new goal: bring truly artesanal, sustainably made mezcal from Miahuatlán to the world, honoring the land, the people, and the spirit that connects them.
